What to pack
Camouflage is permitted in South Africa and our other Southern Africa destinations. Otherwise, wear dark green or other muted colours.
Rifles, ammunition and optics
South African law requires a minimum calibre of .375 for hunting dangerous game. For plains game, calibres such as various 6.5mm, 7mm and the .30 calibre options are ideal.
For dangerous game, we recommend premium bullets such as Swift A-Frame, Barnes TSX or Hornady DGX. For plains game, soft-point or monolithic bullets, such as Barnes TSX, Hornady SST and Norma Oryx, are suitable options. A quality variable scope around 3-9x is ideal.
Bring the rifle you shoot best: shot placement matters more than power.
